The next generation of allied health professionals showcased their creativity, collaboration and community impact at CQUniversity’s Occupational Therapy Graduate Conference.

The student-led event highlighted the wide-ranging projects completed by final-year students during their last term of study, demonstrating how occupational therapy supported people of all ages to live healthier, more independent and meaningful lives.

The conference included more than 130 attendees across campuses in Bundaberg, Rockhampton and 10 online.

CQU Lecturer in Occupational Therapy Robyn Reddiex said the event was a celebration of the students’ innovation and commitment to the profession.

“Each year our OT conference was an inspiring showcase of how students used their knowledge and creativity to respond to real-world needs within their communities,” Mrs Reddiex said.

“It gives students the opportunity to presenting their ideas, advocating for clients and collaborating with stakeholders– all essential skills for their future careers.”

Projects presented during the day addressed a diverse range of community needs, including supporting school students to develop fine motor skills, improving accessibility for older gym patrons, creating mindfulness strategies for teachers, and designing dementia-friendly healthcare spaces.

The event also recognised strong community partnerships, with local health organisations including Coral Coast Physiotherapy and Allied Health Clinic in Bundaberg and Capricorn Coast Occupational Therapy Services in Yeppoon sponsoring the day.

The conference concluded with the presentation of Clinical Educator Awards by CQU’s Occupational Therapy Professional Education Manager Steph Kelly, celebrating the outstanding contributions from clinical educators who have provided placements to CQU students

Ms Reddiex said the success of the event reflected the dedication of both students and staff.

“Our students continued to impress us with their professionalism, empathy and innovation,” she said.

“They not only applied their skills but also demonstrated the positive role occupational therapists play in creating inclusive and supportive environments.”
