Aspiring forensic psychologists across Australia can now take their first step into the fascinating field, with CQUniversity officially launching a new online short course: Introduction to Forensic Psychology.

The four-hour microcredential is the first of its kind in Australia and offers a foundational understanding of forensic psychology - ideal for students, career changers and true crime enthusiasts alike.

Developed by CQUniversity Psychology lecturer Dr Rebecca Wilcoxson, the course explores how psychology intersects with the criminal justice system - providing insight into the minds of offenders, victims and the professionals who work with them.

“I developed the course because so many people - particularly high school students - seem very interested in forensic psychology,” Dr Wilcoxson said.

“This has been clear from my experience at CQUniversity open days, high school engagement events and career expos,” she said.

“I thought it would be helpful for anyone curious about the topic to have access to a clear and accessible overview.”

Offered fully online for $90, the course gives learners a taste of the in-demand profession without needing to commit to a full degree.

Dr Wilcoxson said CQUniversity was fast becoming a hub for forensic psychology studies, with several pathways available for students wanting to continue learning in the field.

“Not all universities offer a forensic psychology unit in their undergraduate psychology degree, so CQU is a great place for someone interested in the topic to study,” she said.

The Introduction to Forensic Psychology course is open to all members of the public, with no prior qualifications required.

Upon completion, participants can use the credential to explore future learning opportunities in psychology and criminology.
