Welders win award
CQUniversity has been named the Training and Education Organisation 2024 winner of Weld Australia's Welding Excellence Awards.
Metal Fabrication teacher Damien Smith said the achievement was a testament to the “incredible teamwork and dedication from everyone involved."
Hosted by Weld Australia, the Excellence Awards honoured and highlighted the exceptional work of welders, fabricators and educators contributing to the industry’s growth.
CEO of Weld Australia Geoff Crittenden said the awards aimed to honour both individuals and businesses who were driving advancements in welding through their commitment to quality, safety and innovation.
“The winners this year embody the pursuit of cutting-edge, sustainable solutions that enhance project outcomes while reducing risks, alongside initiatives that broaden and deepen the skilled workforce within the welding sector,” Mr Crittenden said.
As Queensland’s only dual sector university, CQU is an experienced and innovative trainer providing quality metal fabrication training to students in Central Queensland.
“We deliver training at four campuses, to multiple industries including coal mining, power generation providers, alumina refineries, gas production and coal export terminals,” Mr Smith explained.
“The diverse level of tradespeople engaged in delivering our training all have various specialties from fabrication, sheet metal and welding backgrounds.
“We’re also incredibly proud to support the Women Who Weld program, working closely with local high schools to run welding courses for female students.”
Mr Smith said the award would not have been possible without the support of the CQU TAFE team.
“It is the hard work and professionalism of the entire team in delivering outstanding training that got us this award."
