CQUniversity celebrates 10 years in Townsville
Next month will mark a decade since CQUniversity first established a physical presence in Townsville.
In September 2014, the University officially opened a distance education study centre on Jones Street.
It proved so popular that before long before CQU acquired a floor at 538 Flinders Street, to support growing student demand.
That trajectory continued and two years later, in 2017, CQU opened a new purpose-built, three-level campus building, before further acquiring two additional levels at 538 Flinders – now occupying the two entire buildings – to provide access to quality facilities for students and industry alike.
To celebrate the milestone and CQUniversity’s impact on the Townsville region, the community is invited to attend a special event on Monday, 9 September.
“We’re thrilled to be celebrating 10 years in Townsville and we invite anyone who has had a connection with our campus to attend the in-person event where you will have the opportunity to connect with local businesses, influential community leaders and CQU staff to reflect on our shared journey and explore future opportunities,” Associate Vice-President of the Townsville region, Ms Jodie Duignan-George said.
“We’d love to see you engage with like-minded professionals, spark new ideas and discover how CQU can be the catalyst to take your business to new heights.”
Since its opening, the CQUniversity Townsville campus has made a significant contribution to the NQ community and the local economy, with hundreds of students crossing the graduation stage to then be employed in the region.
Ms Duignan-George said she looked forward to seeing the Townsville campus continue to provide the necessary support for students studying in the region.
“The Townsville campus is very much recognised as the provider of choice for supported distance/online education in North Queensland,” she explained.
“We also support our flagship programs in Paramedic Science and Nursing and in alignment with our university vision, we’re proud to be providing opportunities for those in our community who perhaps work full time, have children or whatever their busy circumstance may be – and need that supported distance.”
In addition to higher education courses, the Townsville campus also offers programs from certificates to bespoke training solutions and micro-credentials which are particularly popular for small to medium enterprise businesses looking to upskill or grow and retain their staff.
“We are a complete solution for the region.”
