Five Qld schools trump business challenge to make final
Queensland young business minds battled it out during CQUniversity’s hotly contested School Business Challenge recently with five schools from Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Townsville winning the rights to compete in the grand final.
First place winners from the three Queensland regions (North, Central and Bundaberg/WideBay) St Augustine’s Team 1 and Team 2 (joint winners), North Rockhampton State High School and Emmaus College Team 2 (joint winners) and Bundaberg North State School respectively will now contest the grand final over the next few weeks virtually.
Grand finalists now face a challenging case study based on a café business and are to provide a presentation in video format by 12 June.
The School Business Challenge attracted record numbers with 162 students from 40 teams from 23 secondary schools and is a testament to organisers of this annual event.
A panel of local business people will have some hard work ahead as they adjudicate the grand final.
First round competitions were staged simultaneously in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton and Bundaberg.
Quiz master Gerard Ilott said the competition tested a range of subject matter from the fields of accounting, business, legal studies and general knowledge, and allows students to see how what they learn at school feeds into the real world.
“This year’s grand final winners will get ‘bragging rights’, along with a trophy, prize money and generous scholarships to study at CQUniversity.”
