Tradies urged to pick up tools and join WorldSkills competitions at CQU

Bricklaying will be one of the categories of the 2024 CQ regional WorldSkills competitions at CQUniversity.

Central Queensland tradies and apprentices are being encouraged to put their talents to the test by competing in the 2024 regional WorldSkills competitions to be hosted by CQUniversity.

Competitions in plumbing, bricklaying, hairdressing, heavy vehicle mechanical, cookery and electrical will be held on CQU campuses in Mackay, Rockhampton, and Emerald and CQU’s WorldSkills coordinator Jackie Campbell said registrations are now open.

“These competitions are a great way for the region’s tradespeople to showcase the skills and knowledge they’ve acquired with many of them receiving their training at CQU,” she said.

“CQU TAFE is proud to host these competitions every second year. Our facilities are second to none and perfect for WorldSkills. Plus, our teaching staff are honoured to act as judges and work along side industry representatives for many of the competitions.”

The dates for the competitions are as follows:

Bricklaying – Rockhampton City Campus – 5 June

Cookery – Mackay City Campus - 20 June and 27 June

Electrical Installation and Electrical Control – Mackay Ooralea Campus – 5-7 August

Plumbing and Heating – Mackay Ooralea Campus – 21-22 August

Hairdressing – Rockhampton City – 23 August

Hairdressing – Mackay City – 26 August

Heavy Vehicle Mechanics Rockhampton North Campus – 2-3 September

Auto Electrical – Emerald Campus - 9 October
