$4.2 million worth of scholarships awarded by CQUniversity in 2023
In 2023, CQUniversity supported more than 2,000 students by awarding $4.2 million through its scholarships and financial support programs.
The scholarships and financial assistance packages helped students to overcome financial barriers to study, especially during the current cost of living crisis.
Scholarships are funded through a number of avenues including university funded scholarships, donor funded scholarships and academic prizes, as well as Commonwealth funded scholarships aimed at improving student equity.
Vice-President of Student Success Professor Jonathan Powles said CQUniversity believes that a quality education can be for everyone – regardless of background, location or life circumstances.
“That’s why we offer a variety of scholarships and bursaries to cater for all student needs.
“This can include financial support to assist with everything from living expenses and accommodation and study costs such as textbooks, uniforms, technology, course-specific equipment, travel costs associated with compulsory residential schools and work placements," Professor Powles said.
“Whether you’re a new student or continuing your studies in 2024, receiving a scholarship can help balance your studies and life commitments.
“A scholarship also looks good on your resume and may open the door to valuable industry networks and work experience opportunities."
Recent scholarship recipient and graduate Rebecca Lisle, who received the CQUniCares Santos GLNG Herb Cordero Memorial Scholarship in 2023 said she was grateful for the support the scholarship offered in her final year of study.
“Receiving this scholarship made a massive difference in my final year of study and has inspired me to support my peers and live by the values Mr Cordero demonstrated.
“By receiving the scholarship, I was able to increase my study load and graduate sooner than planned,” Ms Lisle said.
“Having the support of Santos was great motivation in what was a tough year of my studies. It was nice to know that I had some really great people backing me, and I wouldn’t be in this position if it wasn’t for this amazing opportunity.”
