Rockhampton Health Clinic

The CQUniversity Rockhampton Health Clinic is a public access clinic with state-of-the-art health facilities. It allows a practical learning environment for students and a range of health services which are available to CQUniversity staff and students as well as the general public. This facility is a working partnership with the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS).

Health Services offered at the clinic include:

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists aim to restore proper functioning to the body or in the case of permanent disease or injury, reduce the impact of any dysfunction. This service is provided by CQUniversity Physiotherapy students under the supervision of a qualified physiotherapist.

A number of services are available for those with acute or chronic pain, or sporting injuries.

Physiotherapy services/treatment at the CQU Health Clinic include:

  • Acute & chronic pain (neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, back, hip, knee, ankle/foot).
  • Sports injuries.
  • Headaches.
  • Taping appointments.
  • Strength / flexibility programs.
  • Gait retraining / assessments.
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation including joint replacements, joint arthroscopes/debridement’s, ACL rehabilitation, meniscal repairs and other ankle / back / knee / shoulder surgeries).

No referral is required.

Physiotherapy Clinic Hours

Open Monday to Friday 9 am to 4.30 pm

Note: as these services are provided by students they are not covered by Medicare or Private Health Insurance. Appointments are also available with our Registered Physiotherapist.

Oral Health

This service is provided by 2nd and 3rd year CQUniversity Oral Health students under clinical supervision by a registered health professional Clinical services include:

  • examination
  • clean and polish
  • risk assessment including plaque disclosing
  • oral hygiene instruction
  • fissure sealants for at-risk teeth
  • preventive medicaments including fluoride
  • scaling and treatment for periodontal diseases
  • impressions and mouthguards
  • tooth whitening
  • fillings
  • treatment of primary (baby) teeth with extractions, stainless steel crowns and composite resin crowns for front teeth.

Podiatry

Podiatrists are health care professionals who deal with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.

Podiatrists aim to improve mobility, independence and quality of life for their patients and to help reduce complications associated with all risk conditions affecting the feet.

At the CQU Health Clinic many of the services are provided by CQUniversity students under the supervision of accredited clinicians. Services include:

  • general podiatry care
  • toenail problems, corns and callouses
  • diabetes management and education
  • complete assessment including vascular and neurological screening
  • biomechanical assessment, gait analysis and orthoses therapy
  • mobility complaints for all ages
  • paediatric assessment and management
  • conditions such as flat feet, heel pain, growing pains
  • footwear assessment and education
  • minor nail surgery.

No referral is necessary to attend the CQUniversity Rockhampton Health clinic.

Speech Pathology

At the CQUniversity Health Clinic, many of the services are provided by CQUniversity students under the supervision of fully qualified and experienced clinicians, including speech pathologists. A speech pathologist is trained to assess, diagnose and treat people with communication and/or swallowing difficulties. Speech pathology services offered by the university include a weekly Paediatric Speech Pathology clinic, a Fluency clinic specialising in the treatment of stuttering disorders and a Literacy clinic that runs in the second half of the year and is designed for school-aged children.
