CQUniversity Rockhampton Health Clinic delivers physiotherapy to the wider community. Physiotherapists aim to restore proper functioning to the body or in the case of permanent disease or injury, reduce the impact of any dysfunction. This service is provided by CQUniversity Physiotherapy students under the supervision of qualified physiotherapists.

Several services are available for those with acute or chronic pain or sporting injuries. Physiotherapy services include:

  • Acute & chronic pain (neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, back, hip, knee, ankle/foot)
  • Sports injuries
  • Headaches
  • Taping appointments
  • Exercise classes
  • Strength / flexibility programs
  • Gait retraining/assessments
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation including joint replacements, joint arthroscopes/debridement’s, ACL rehabilitation, meniscal repairs and other ankle/back/knee/shoulder surgeries.

CQUniversity Rockhampton Health Clinic delivers oral health care to the wider community. All services are provided by 2nd and 3rd year Oral Health students under the clinical supervision of registered health professionals. Clinical services include:

  • Examination
  • Risk assessment
  • Oral hygiene advice
  • Fissure sealants
  • Application of preventive medicaments including fluoride
  • Scaling and Clean
  • Mouthguards
  • Tooth whitening
  • Fillings
  • Stainless Steel Crowns for primary teeth
  • Extraction of primary teeth.

CQUniversity Rockhampton Health Clinic delivers podiatry services to the wider community. Podiatrists are health care professionals who deal with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.

Podiatrists aim to improve mobility, independence and quality of life for their patients and to help reduce complications associated with all risk conditions affecting the feet.

At the CQU Health Clinic many of the services are provided by CQUniversity students under the supervision of accredited clinicians. Services include:

  • General podiatry care
  • Toenail problems, corns and callouses
  • Diabetes management and education
  • Complete assessment including vascular and neurological screening
  • Biomechanical assessment, gait analysis and orthoses therapy
  • Mobility complaints for all ages
  • Shockwave therapy
  • Paediatric assessment and management
  • Conditions such as flat feet, heel pain, growing pains
  • Footwear assessment and education
  • Minor nail surgery.

CQUniversity Rockhampton Health Clinic delivers speech pathology services to the wider community. The clinic’s state-of-the-art facilities provides a practical learning environment for students, under the guidance and supervision of fully qualified and experienced speech pathologists.

Speech pathologists are trained to assess, diagnose and treat people with communication and/or swallowing/mealtime difficulties. Speech pathology services offered by the University include a weekly Child and Youth Speech Pathology clinic, and a Fluency clinic specialising in the treatment of stuttering disorders. Service benefits include:

  • Comprehensive assessment and therapy service
  • Assessments of your child’s speech and language skills
  • Individual speech therapy programs developed to be continued at home
  • Provision of individual blocks of speech therapy intervention
  • Accepted clients of all ages

CQUniversity Rockhampton Health Clinic delivers occupational therapy services to children, teenagers and young adults. Occupational therapists are skilled in assessment, goal achievement, promoting positive change and enhancing a client’s ability to engage in all aspects of everyday life. All services are provided by 3rd or 4th year occupational therapy students under the supervision of a fully qualified occupational therapist.

At CQU Health Clinic occupational therapy services are tailored to each individual client and therefore may change based on the outcome of your first visit and goals of therapy. We can offer support in a wide range of areas including:

  • Sensory processing difficulties
  • Self-regulation and challenging behaviours
  • Handwriting and fine motor skills
  • Attention and concentration skills
  • Play and social skill development
  • School readiness
  • Increasing independence with activities of daily living
  • Any other task or activity that your child has difficulty completing.

Occupational Therapy Clinic Hours

'Balance 4 Life' Falls and Balance Class

The ‘Balance 4 Life’ program is an eight-week physiotherapy exercise class held at the CQUniversity Health Clinic North Rockhampton campus. This class is designed to decrease your risk of falls or near misses by:
  • Reducing disability and fear associated with falling
  • Improving mobility and independence
  • Improving confidence with activities of daily living
  • Increasing strength and proprioception
  • Self-management strategies for falls prevention
  • Weekly educational sessions led by various allied health professionals.

'Work it Circuit' Maintenance Class

The ‘Work It Circuit’ program is a physiotherapy exercise class held at CQUniversity Health Clinic North Rockhampton campus. This class is designed to provide a service for clients to make functional and physical improvements by:

  • Providing an individualised and supervised exercise program – performed once or twice a week
  • Providing an individualised home exercise program – for outside of the class
  • Education and advice about self‑management strategies and progressions
