Accessing Support

If you have experienced sexual assault or violence as a member of the CQUniversity community, we are here to support you.

This applies to incidents that have happened recently or in the past, and regardless of the location (off campus, in a residence, online, or on campus). There are several ways to access support and/or make a report.

Student Counselling and Wellbeing

The Student Counselling and Wellbeing service is a free and confidential service provided to all CQUni students. The Student Counselling and Wellbeing team aims to assist students with any issues that may negatively impact their studies or personal wellbeing.

Our counsellors are trained in providing sensitive and trauma-informed responses and can handle disclosures competently and compassionately. The Student Counselling and Wellbeing team will not pressure you into any direction and can provide you with resources and referral options that may be helpful. Students needing help dealing with a recent or past incident of trauma are encouraged to contact the Student Counselling and Wellbeing team. Our qualified counsellors can also refer students to several external service providers who specialise in providing victim/survivour with professional support.

CQUniversity, encourages all victims/survivors of sexual harassment and sexual assault, regardless of when or where the incident occurred to connect with our Student Counselling and Wellbeing team should they require emotional or academic support during their study journey.

CQU Out of Hours Student Support Line

Available outside office hours and a free service for CQUniversity Students living in Australia. The crisis support line is available Weekdays 4.30 pm to 8.30 am (AEST), Weekends and Public Holidays. Phone 1300 226 987 or text 0480 097 747.

Student Advocacy

Student Advocacy is a free and confidential service providing support and assistance to all CQUni students who seek guidance on grievances, appeals and disputes. The free service helps students understand and navigate associated university policies and processes and to articulate their issues.

The Student Advocacy service can assist with guiding a student through the process of lodging a formal complaint. To contact Student Advocacy:

Ally Program

CQUni is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive atmosphere for all students The CQU Ally Program promotes acceptance and understanding for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) students.

The Ally program is for ALL students, whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or not. There is an Ally Network on the Student Portal as a connection point for any student who would like to be involved. It is a place for students to access support and get in contact with an Ally. This is also the place where students who want to become trained as Allies can do so.

CQUniversity employs security resources at all campuses. You should always contact security if you are concerned about any suspicious activity on campus or if you have any concerns about your personal safety. Security can be contacted 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from any campus on 0418 792 982.

Students and staff are encouraged to download the free SafeZone app to their smartphone or tablet. SafeZone is an easy to use app that allows you to call for help at the touch of a button. You can find more information about SafeZone on our safety on campus page.
