A Turner fabricates, components and products from metal and wood. Working to a set of specifications, they operate tools and machines to grind, mill and shape raw materials into the specified form, then assemble the final product.

The WorldSkills Australia Turning Competition has been designed for Competitors to perform various mechanical and technical skills whilst completing assigned project pieces. Wes Wilcox will be hosting one event, please register for your chosen event by visiting WorldSkills.

  • Thursday 16 April - Mackay Ooralea, Building 82, Fitting Workshop, 171 Boundary Road

To be eligible to enter a WorldSkills competition, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship in an Australian RTO/TAFE/University
  • Be undertaking studies towards a qualification at an Australian RTO/TAFE or University
  • Undertaken/completed a relevant qualification at an Australian RTO/TAFE or University

There is no age criteria to enter the Regionals, however, to be eligible to proceed to the National Championships, the National Age Ruling will apply.

A competitor at the WorldSkills Australia National Championships should not be older than 24 years in the year of competition (For 2027 – Born on or after 1 Jan 2003). For more information on eligibility visit WorldSkills.
