Dale grew up in Bundaberg, Wide Bay, going on to a long career as a police officer stationed all over Queensland. He studied his Bachelor of Arts via online study in 1995.

Dale ran for election to the Townsville City Council whilst still employed as the Officer in Charge of the Townsville Police station. He served as Councillor and Deputy Mayor from 2008 to 2013. Dale has been heavily involved in the community through various business development committees including Townsville Enterprise, Ayr and Home Hill Chamber of Commerce, and Bowen/Collinsville Enterprise.

Elected as the Member for Burdekin in 2015, Dale is now the Shadow Minister for Police and Corrective Services, Shadow Minister for Fire & Emergency Services and Shadow Minister for Rural & Regional Affairs. His previous Parliamentary service includes membership on the Crime and Corruption Committee and the Utilities, Science and Innovation Committee.

He was awarded the National Police Medal - for diligent long service to the community in hazardous circumstances in 1998.
