After graduating from CQUniversity, Abass has worked with Aurizon, the Australia Capital Territory (ACT) Government, Southern Cross Austereo and Telstra. He has also undertaken study at the University of Wollongong, where he completed a Master of Engineering and PhD.

Before studying at CQU, Abass completed a Higher National Diploma in Electronic/Telecommunication Engineering at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi in Nigeria. He chose CQUniversity because he found the staff helpful during his search for a university in Australia.
