Wilben Suniega

My career in construction began in 2010, working on oil and gas projects in the Middle East. After approximately four years, I went on to work in the Philippines across real estate development and the education sector, where I was responsible for university facilities and maintenance. These experiences broadened my understanding of construction, project coordination and facilities management.

Before studying at CQUniversity, I was already working as a Construction Manager in the concrete precasting industry. I wanted to build on my practical experience, strengthen my leadership and management skills and gain a deeper understanding of Australian construction practices.

I chose to study a Master of Construction Management because it offered the opportunity to further my qualifications while continuing to develop professionally. One of the most valuable experiences during my studies was completing an internship with John Holland, where I gained practical exposure to Australian construction projects, particularly civil works involving electrical infrastructure.

During my internship, I was involved in project progress monitoring, quality control, supplier and client coordination and safety management. This experience helped me better understand Australian construction standards and project delivery processes while applying my previous industry knowledge in a new environment.

Completing my master's degree in 2025 while balancing my professional responsibilities has been one of my proudest achievements. The qualification has strengthened my technical knowledge, project management skills and confidence in making decisions, solving problems and leading teams.

Today, I work as a Construction Manager at Alpha Precast, overseeing precast concrete manufacturing, quality assurance and project delivery. My responsibilities include coordinating teams and suppliers, managing resources and monitoring schedules to ensure projects meet quality standards and deadlines.

Having worked across different countries and industries, I have developed a strong appreciation for adaptability, collaboration and continuous learning. I am passionate about improving construction practices, workplace safety and project efficiency, and look forward to continuing to grow my career in Australia's construction industry.
