Luke Worth

My career path has been anything but conventional, evolving from an upbringing in a family trade business to an 11-year stint as a breakfast radio host and a competitive career in NBL2 basketball. Leveraging the communication skills, work ethic, and team dynamics gained from these early pursuits, I transitioned into healthcare executive leadership. Seeking to validate my hands-on experience against formal academic theory and engage with new perspectives, I chose to study at CQUniversity—a decision that deepened my leadership approach and strengthened my engagement with emerging leaders.

As one of the few non-clinical health executives trusted to oversee billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded healthcare, I currently serve as Executive Director Hospital Services. In this role, I manage a workforce of over 1,000 full-time equivalent staff and large operational budgets, guiding clinical quality, strategic direction, and patient care access across the hospital network.

Major highlights of my career include leading the design and implementation of NSW Health’s statewide "Whole of Health" program in 2013, as well as pioneering the joint QCAT and Queensland Health trial in 2017. The latter integrated staff directly at the bedside to support vulnerable patients requiring legal guardians, freeing up over 5,000 bed days and significantly reducing wait times. Outside of healthcare leadership, I remain passionate about basketball, hold senior rankings in martial arts, and value time spent with my family, whose support and strong values anchor everything I do.
