Melinda Hashimoto

Before studying at CQUniversity, I worked a variety of part-time jobs while searching for my path. I selected CQU as my top choice for its unique bilingual course offerings. My Bachelor of Education equipped me with essential, transferable skills in cross-cultural communication, strategic planning, and leadership that laid the groundwork for an unconventional career spanning education, trade, public policy, and governance.

Beginning in classroom teaching—including time in Japan—my career evolved into international trade roles supporting Asian markets with the Japanese Consulate-General and Trade and Investment Queensland. I later transitioned into senior political advisory roles across state and federal government, advising Ministers on agricultural policy and market access. Since 2019, I have served as Chief Executive Officer of Egg Farmers of Australia, advocating for national producers across biosecurity, food safety, and trade policy, alongside my governance work as a Director of North Queensland Bulk Ports.

A career highlight was earning a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to travel throughout Japan to research H5 avian influenza preparedness, uniting my passions for Japan, biosecurity, and agricultural advocacy. A Justice of the Peace (Qualified), I complement my executive career through community service, mentoring, and formal studies in floristry. Ultimately, my journey reflects a lifelong commitment to service, relationship-building, and supporting Australian primary producers.
