Akshay Singh Vagle

From engineering and mining operations to digital marketing, eCommerce and artificial intelligence, Akshay Vagle’s career reflects the value of staying curious and being willing to follow an unexpected path.

Before moving to Australia, Akshay completed a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in India and worked in operations within his family’s mining business. The experience developed his sense of responsibility, teamwork and practical problem-solving, but he was ready to challenge himself through international study and experience a different culture and way of learning.

Attracted by CQUniversity’s practical approach to engineering, industry focus and welcoming environment for international students, Akshay completed a Master of Engineering (Mechanical) in 2021. Adjusting to life and study in a new country was a significant step, but one that helped build his confidence, adaptability and independence.

Following graduation, Akshay began his Australian career as a Project Engineering Intern with Brunswick Aces, contributing to the establishment of a new non-alcoholic brewery. Working across engineering design, process improvement and business operations gave him valuable industry experience and sparked a growing curiosity about the commercial side of organisations.

Akshay became increasingly interested in how businesses grow, what influences customer decisions and how technology is changing the way organisations operate. He later completed an MBA specialising in Digital Management and transitioned into digital marketing and eCommerce.

Today, Akshay works as an independent digital marketing and eCommerce professional, helping businesses grow through integrated campaigns, online retail, analytics, search engine optimisation, paid advertising and marketing automation. His work combines creativity with data, whether he is improving a website, analysing customer behaviour or exploring how artificial intelligence can make marketing more effective.

While his career has moved beyond traditional engineering, Akshay continues to draw on the skills developed through his CQU studies. Critical thinking, evidence-based decision-making and a methodical approach to problem-solving now support his work in testing ideas, interpreting data and continuously improving marketing outcomes.

He is particularly proud of successfully transitioning into a new field while retaining the analytical mindset engineering gave him. He also develops AI-powered marketing projects and digital solutions, turning ideas into working prototypes that bring together technology, creativity and business strategy.

Outside of work, Akshay produces electronic music and performs as a part-time DJ in Melbourne. He also gives back through regular blood donation and participation in The Push-Up Challenge, supporting greater awareness of mental health.

Looking back, Akshay is grateful his career did not follow the path he first imagined. Sometimes the unexpected direction turns out to be the right one.
