Steven Menczel

I am not a typical graduate. When I graduated from CQUniversity with an MBA in early 2026, I was 58 years old, and it was my fourth degree across four different decades. Having previously studied Arts, Law and a Master of Education, I see myself as a lifelong learner with a strong interest in people, leadership and how individuals grow in their careers.

Before commencing my MBA, I was already mentoring and coaching young IT professionals, but I wanted a formal business qualification to give more weight to my work. CQU’s self-paced and remote study options suited me, allowing me to continue working while developing my business knowledge.

I now work as a Professional Skills Coach with FDM Group, a global organisation that deploys talented IT workers into corporations to contribute to major projects, many of which are now AI-based. My role focuses on helping these professionals act professionally, build confidence and make a successful impact in their careers through soft skills training, coaching and mentorship.

My career has included more than 30 years in management and leadership, as well as founding and growing a successful education business in China with a local partner. I also played a role in the early growth of Boom Chicago in Amsterdam, which has helped launch a number of successful international performers.

Completing my MBA has given me greater authority in the work I do today and strengthened my ability to support emerging professionals as they navigate complex and fast-changing workplaces.
