Gokcan Hamutoglu
After completing my bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering in Türkiye, I began my career working on large-scale industrial electrical projects within steel plants and heavy industry environments. These early roles gave me hands-on experience in electrical installations, commissioning, project coordination and multidisciplinary engineering across complex industrial facilities, including opportunities to work alongside international companies such as Hitachi and Primetals.
One of the biggest reasons I chose to continue my studies at CQUniversity was seeing the positive experience my brother had during his own time at the University. I was also drawn to CQU’s practical and industry-focused approach to engineering education, particularly as I wanted to further specialise in power systems and renewable energy integration.
During my Master of Engineering studies, I developed advanced knowledge in power system analysis, renewable energy integration and electrical network modelling. My thesis focused on analysing the impact of solar PV integration on transmission networks using Siemens PSS®E, strengthening my technical capabilities in load flow analysis, fault studies and voltage stability. I was also recognised for my academic performance during my studies.
A major milestone in my career was securing an internship with Volta Energy while completing my studies at CQUniversity. That opportunity allowed me to apply my academic learning to real engineering projects in the Australian energy sector and later progress into a full-time Electrical Engineer role with the company.
Today, I work on projects involving substations, battery energy storage systems, renewable energy integration and large-scale energy infrastructure developments across Australia. Building an engineering career in Australia while adapting to a new country and professional environment has been one of the proudest achievements of my journey, and I look forward to continuing my growth within the renewable energy sector.
