Hillan Nzioka’s career shows how one qualification can open doors to many paths. Born and raised in a small farming village in Kenya’s Lower Eastern region, Hillan developed a deep appreciation for cultural heritage and traditional knowledge—values that now inspire his writing. After moving to Nairobi for further study, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Geography and Sociology from Egerton University, followed by a Master of Business Administration from CQUniversity and a Graduate Certificate in Public Policy from Queensland University of Technology.

Professionally, Hillan has built more than a decade of expertise in environmental protection and public policy within the New South Wales public sector. As a Policy Officer with the NSW Environment Protection Authority, he specialises in regulatory practice, stakeholder engagement and strategic planning, combining analytical precision with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. He is also a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).

Alongside his public service career, Hillan is an accomplished author. His debut novel, The Numen of Banda (2024), published internationally and available through Amazon and Booktopia, is a coming-of-age tale set in Kenya that explores the intersections of tradition, cultural identity and modernisation. Critics have praised its vivid landscapes and layered narrative, reflecting Hillan’s gift for bridging traditional wisdom with contemporary challenges.

Hillan credits his CQUniversity business degree for giving him the professional grounding and flexible mindset to excel across such diverse fields.
