After graduating with a Bachelor of Nursing at the end of 2017 I continued my studies in midwifery, a field I was always drawn to. During my studies I worked as a GP Nurse from 2019 to 2021, which provided a great beginning to my career. The role allowed me to perfect my basic nursing skills, critical thinking, and time management skills.

In 2021, I completed my midwifery studies and went on to work as a midwife at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth for six months. Coming from a small town on the Mid North Coast of NSW, this was a huge change, as the hospital handles approximately 6,000 births per year. By mid-2022, I had relocated to Newcastle, NSW, where I began working at John Hunter Hospital. There, I rotated through the Birth Suite, Antenatal Clinic, Postnatal Ward, and Antenatal Ward. I still remember the first birth I ever witnessed, as well as the first birth where I was ‘hands on’ – such a magical experience!

During this time, I also started working in the NICU as a Neonatal Nurse, where I discovered my heart belonged. I love being able to care for sick and premature babies, and supporting families through a challenging life experience. It is an extremely rewarding line of work.

Now, a few years since moving to Newcastle, I am looking into studying Child and Family Health Nursing. I feel ready for a new challenge and feel this will compliment my existing skills and interests very well.
