Before deciding to study nursing, I was in banking, which I absolutely loved! However, I moved interstate, and banking opportunities in my new town were extremely limited. I did some research on which careers can be utilised from state to state and found that nursing was perfect, so then I hunted down the best university for distance learning and came up with CQUniversity. I completed a Bachelor of Nursing during COVID via interstate study (yes, I’m proud of myself!)
After I graduated in 2022, I completed a graduate program at Canberra Hospital in neurosurgical and orthopaedics. After the program, I worked in the Emergency Department, where I thrived! It was the best experience ever. Now I work at a regional TAFE as a trainer and assessor for student-enrolled nurses. My job involves teaching enrolled nursing students for their nursing diploma. I get to talk about real-life nursing and examples of significant nursing behaviours. I create teaching plans to ensure the correct learning outcomes for learners.
My degree helped me create new goals and dreams around nursing, opening doors I never knew existed. I have gone from acute care work in Canberra Hospital to teaching in rural Victoria.
