Choosing to study a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary and Adult Education at Central Queensland University was driven by several compelling reasons that aligned with both my professional aspirations as an educator at James Cook University, and personal preferences. The opportunity to obtain a professional development grant to cover tuition fees significantly alleviated financial concerns, making the pursuit of further education more accessible and less burdensome.Â
The competency-based assessment associated with this course was a critical factor in my decision. This approach focuses on the demonstration of practical skills and knowledge by industry practitioners, rather than traditional grades. This encouraged a more relaxed and productive learning environment, where I could concentrate on acquiring and applying skills effectively.
Since I completed my Graduate Certificate in Tertiary and Adult Education, my work life has been a journey of growth and fulfillment. I've been involved with a Regional University Study Hub, where I've had the opportunity to help link students in regional areas to additional education and training. It's been rewarding to see these students access the resources they need to succeed. I take pride in the high rate of student satisfaction with my teaching and learning practices. Knowing that my students appreciate my efforts motivates me to keep improving and innovating in my role.
