Financial accountant, community volunteer and Nepali storyteller

Financial Accountant and CPA candidate

Surendra “Subin” Kharel’s journey has been shaped by education, resilience, community and a belief in the power of stories.

Born and raised in Nepal, Subin grew up surrounded by stories of people, community and resilience, themes that continue to influence his writing, volunteering and professional life. After completing a Bachelor of Business Administration at Tribhuvan University, he began his career with Rastriya Vanijya Bank in Thamel before moving to Australia to pursue a Master of Professional Accounting at CQUniversity Sydney.

Since graduating, Subin has built experience across both government and private sector roles, strengthening his skills in finance and accounting. His career has included roles with the Tasmanian Department of Health, the Department of Justice Tasmania and HS Fresh Food. He now works as a Financial Accountant at Daley’s Auto, Marine & Upholstery Supplies and continues to build his professional expertise while pursuing CPA.

But Subin’s story is not defined by work alone. He has remained deeply committed to giving back through volunteering and community involvement with organisations including Tasmania SES, NSW SES, Australian Red Cross, International Nepali Literary Society, Nepali Society of Tasmania, Council of International Students Australia, Cumberland City Council Reading Buddies and Vivid Sydney 2026.

Subin also contributes to the Nepali community through media, education and storytelling. As a presenter and producer for the Nepali Radio Hour on Hobart FM 96.1, he helps share language, culture and community stories. He is also a bilingual educator/facilitator with the Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW, supporting connection and engagement across culturally diverse communities.

He is also the author of FERIYEKO MAYA – The Untold Love Story, published in 2022.

Today, Subin continues to balance numbers with narratives, community with creativity and career growth with service. As a CQUniversity alumnus, his story reflects lifelong learning, cultural connection and meaningful contribution.
