Wollongong’s Nitya Kaushik hit a couple of educational hurdles last year before embracing the springboard offered by CQUniversity’s STEPS preparatory program.

She’s now enrolled in first-year Sonography, based at CQUniversity Sydney, and has fresh confidence in her career goals.

“In high school, I had anxiety issues and left on just about my first day of Year 12 as I did not feel supported,” Nitya says.

“I then tried to complete my school certificate via a TAFE-based distance program but again had issues with support and the subjects were not relevant to the course I wanted to pursue.”

All that changed toward the end of last year when Nikya enrolled in CQUni’s STEPS program and resonated with the study of maths, biology, physics, essay writing, prep skills and computing.

As a mark of her confidence, she also fitted in some first-year level undergraduate studies in Medical Science and joined a CQUGlobal Outbound study abroad excursion to a conference in India on 'Fetal Echo & Perinatal Cardiac Morphology'.

Nitya works part-time as a receptionist at an ultrasound clinic and heard great things about the CQUni degree.

“The practice offers placement for sonography students and the doctor was particularly happy with the quality of CQUni students, including one who had completed the STEPS program,” she says.

"The CQUni Sonography course is specifically designed to train sonographers for the working environment."

Nitya recently attended the CQUni Sydney STEPS Orientation to share her own STEPS experiences with the new students, as she knew they would appreciate a first-hand account.

When not studying or working, Nitya makes sure any spare time is spent on her passion for singing, composing music and playing musical instruments, particularly guitar and piano.
