The EduTECH Asia conference has showcased some of CQUniversity’s social innovation initiatives, as participants embraced a virtual platform for the first time.

Social Innovation program manager Ashley Clarke and Associate Director Academic of Social Innovation Dr Tobias Andreasson were invited to present a roundtable session at the three-day event, across 23-26 June 2020.

The popular event for Asian educators was hosted online due to COVID-19 restrictions, and Dr Andreasson said it attracted representatives from around the world.

“Our session was called ‘Foster a Social Innovation Mindset among students’, and we provided an overview of CQUniversity’s approach, how we unpack and understand the Social Innovation Mindset, and also shared our variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities,” he said.

“The feedback from our roundtable participants was really positive, and they were really excited to see an Australian approach to borderless education.”

Ms Clarke, who coordinates social innovation initiatives including Three Day Workshops, the Festival of Change, and student participation in The Big Idea social enterprise design competition, said it was a vital time to be embracing innovative technology in education.

“We’ve been redesigning our social innovation initiatives since March, to ensure students can still connect and get those real-world changemaker experiences, through virtual platforms,” she said.

“It was great to have global input into some of those changes we’re making, and to hear what else is happening around the world, too.”

CQUniversity’s session was among more than 60 presentations and live panel debates from leading educators and education technology innovators.

Earlier this year, CQUniversity was again named an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus, still the first and only Australian university to achieve membership of the exclusive global network committed to social innovation, enterprise and impact.
