Students have the option to choose between study opportunities in a wide variety of disciplines. Courses are available at Certificate I,II and III level.

Benefits of VETiS program

The VETiS program provides you with the opportunity to gain:

  • practical hands-on training
  • valuable employability skills
  • credit towards a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
  • real trade skills and qualifications while completing high school
  • a competitive edge in the employment marketplace
  • credit towards further study
VETiS Study Options

There are four ways to undertake a VETiS program:

  1. Become a school based apprentice or trainee. For more information on school based apprenticeships or traineeships, please visit http://training.qld.gov.au/apprentices/sats/index.html
  2. Study VET courses with CQUniversity - delivered at one of our locations.
  3. Study VET courses with CQUniversity – delivered by distance education. Supported distance mode is available with classes of 12 or more students. This may be delivered through tutorials either face-to-face or via video conference.
  4. The school forms a partnership, sometimes entering into a third party agreement, with CQUniversity, enabling VET qualified high school teachers to deliver training to students at their respective schools. Specific information on partnered schools may be provided by your School VET Co-ordinator and CQUniversity representative or by making a specific enquiry via email to vetis@cqu.edu.au.

VETiS course distance training option

If you choose to study a VETiS course by distance education, you can access any of CQUniversity’s locations in Biloela, Brisbane, Bundaberg, Cairns, Emerald, Gladstone, Mackay,  Noosa, Rockhampton, Sydney, Townsville and Yeppoon or our centres, hubs and sites. VETiS courses that are available to study by distance education may have workshops to attend (some may be compulsory) and you’ll complete these workshops at the CQUniversity campus or study centre closest to you, your school or designated site or by video conference. You'll receive more information about these workshops upon enrolment.

VETiS course on-campus training option

CQUniversity offers VETiS courses on-campus at a number of locations across Queensland. If you are studying an on-campus VETiS course you will need to attend classes that may be held at your local campus, your school or designated site in your region.

Course Fees

VETiS qualifications that are funded by the Queensland Government’s VET investment budget are listed on the Queensland Government Department of Educationand Training (DET) Training Subsidies List. CQUniversity is an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for the delivery of VETiS qualifications on the Queensland Training subsidies list at certificate levels I and II. Applying for VETiS program

To apply for a VETiS course, please download, print and complete the VETiS application form. Entry to the VETiS program is by direct application only to vetis@cqu.edu.au.

Applications must be submitted on the VETiS application form and signed by the student, their parents/guardians and the school VET Coordinator. Your application form must be submitted to your school with a copy of your birth certificate.

The school VET Coordinator is required to email the application form to vetis@cqu.edu.au. Applications will only be accepted via this email address.

Most VETiS courses start in February and follows the school terms. Some classroom-based courses and all online courses have a mid-year intake.

Enrolments may be accepted up to one week prior to commencement of the course you are applying for. Some courses have limited numbers due to the nature of the course therefore we encourage you to enrol by December. There are no enrolment limits for online courses.

Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb)

CQUniversity has implemented the Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) as a pre-enrolment literacy and numeracy assessment tool for all new VETiS students.

On receipt of your VETiS application, you will be emailed a link to the BKSB to complete an Initial Assessment in both Maths and English. Once completed, you will be assigned an Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level.

The ACSF level is then used to provide you with advice around your course of study and to identify if literacy and numeracy support is required. It's important that you complete this test as you can not be enrolled into a VETiS course until the bksb assessment has been completed in full.
