Credit or Advanced Standing for TAFE Students

Credit for Prior Learning

When you apply to study a TAFE skill set, certificate or diploma course with CQUniversity, you may be eligible for credit based on your previous TAFE study.

Credit will reduce the number of units you are required to complete. In some cases, this may shorten the time it takes to complete a course.

Your application for credit will be assessed after you have accepted your offer with CQUniversity to study a TAFE course. CQUniversity does not complete credit pre-assessments for TAFE courses.

If you are seeking to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on your prior knowledge, skills or experience, you can find out more information on this process at our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) TAFE page

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you have previously studied a nationally accredited course or unit, you may be eligible for credit towards your CQUniversity TAFE course.

Units for credit must meet the nationally recognised training package requirements and any individual course accreditation, licensing or regulatory requirements.

The units of competency required for each TAFE course can be found in the CQU Handbook.

If you are a new TAFE student, you can submit your credit application within your ApplyOnline admission application.

If you are a continuing TAFE student, you can submit your credit application via the MyCredit application portal.

Tips for applying through MyCredit:

  • If you are receiving a message that states ‘No unit exists’ when attempting to add your previous TAFE unit/s to your credit application, please just enter the unit details and click the plus sign to add this unit to your application.
  • If you are unsure of which units to apply for credit towards, you can leave this section blank and attach your transcript for assessment.
  • You are only able to submit a credit application through MyCredit if you are an existing CQUniversity student. If you are new to CQUniversity, you should submit your credit application within your ApplyOnline admission application.

You must submit a copy of your official transcript from your previous RTO/training provider or a verifiable USI transcript. Instructions on how to generate a verifiable USI transcript can be found on the USI website.

In line with our regulatory compliance requirements, CQUniversity is required to verify all prior TAFE transcripts before awarding credit. Therefore, if we are unable to verify your transcript via one of our verification pathways, we may require further documentation directly from the regulatory body to assist with this process. If required, the instructions on how to request this documentation will be communicated to you directly via your student email.

New students can apply for credit towards their TAFE course within their ApplyOnline admission application. This credit application will only be assessed once you have received and accepted an offer to study the TAFE course.

Continuing students can apply for credit towards their TAFE course at any time throughout the course of their study through the MyCredit application portal.

CQUniversity does not offer pre-assessments of credit towards TAFE courses. Therefore, you must be admitted to the TAFE course you are seeking credit towards for your credit application to be assessed.

Credit assessment is a complex process due to the number of factors that need to be individually assessed. Applications may take up to four (4) weeks to be assessed and finalised following receipt of all necessary documentation and verification.

Credit application outcomes will be sent to your student email account.
