Overview

The Master of Medical Ultrasound is ideal for those with a Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography or equivalent, with two years of clinical experience, providing you with the specialist theoretical knowledge in advanced clinical practice and foundational skills to undertake medical science research.

From advanced musculoskeletal sonography, advanced fetal echocardiography to advanced communication, clinical education and more, you will learn from skilled Medical Ultrasound experts at the pace you prefer. 

If you're a qualified medical sonographer with a Graduate Diploma level qualification and two years of clinical experience as a qualified sonographer then this course provides an ideal professional development opportunity. Upon graduation, you will have enhanced your expertise in medical ultrasound and broadened your career opportunities in the public and private health sectors. 

This coursework Masters degree is a top-up qualification from the Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography (or equivalent). It enables you to broaden your knowledge in areas of advanced clinical sonographic practice and research. This includes advanced clinical practice knowledge in a range of specialised areas plus, a unit dedicated to foundation skills and knowledge for medical science research.

In this course, you will complete a total of four core units. 

The first unit listed below, MEDS29007 Medical Science Research Project, is mandatory. You will have the opportunity to select three additional units from the options provided below.

The Indicative First-Year Fee is the approximate cost of enrolling in this course for one year depending on the type of place you are offered, for example a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) or a Full Fee Paying (FFP) Place. For a graduate diploma and master's course, this usually comprises of eight units. The indicative fee should be used as a guide only. Your actual fees may vary depending on the units you select to study and the number of units you complete in the 12 month period. Commonwealth Supported Places

With Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) available for this course from 2026, you may be eligible for significant fee savings, provided you meet CSP eligibility requirements. CSPs are subsidised by the Australian Government, meaning you are only required to pay the student contribution rather than full tuition fees.

If you are not eligible for a CSP or if CSPs are full, you will be required to pay full fees.

HECS-HELP

You may be eligible for a HECS-HELP government loan if you are offered a CSP. HECS-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that assists you in paying your student contributions. Provided you meet the HECS-HELP eligibility criteria, you may use HECS-HELP to defer part or all of your student contribution fees.
