If you are interested in employment in accounting and financial management orientated careers, this course is for you. Potential fields of employment include financial accounting, management accounting, taxation auditing, teaching, finance, banking management, administration, consulting or business advisory services.
This course is fully accredited and meets the membership requirements of the three accounting bodies in Australia - CPA Australia and the Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) together with the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

The Institute of Public Accountants (www.publicaccountants.org.au) was established over 90 years ago, is dedicated to supporting accountants operating in the SME/SMP arena, with a wide range of tools and services that add true value to today’s productive and busy accounting graduates. The IPA offers students and graduates opportunities for professional development, networking, career coaching and member discounts on a wide range of services at both a personal and business level.
The Master of Professional Accounting will equip you with professional skills in accounting, finance, computer software applications, economics, statistics, and business law. This course is suited to you if you meet the entry requirements and seek a career in accounting in Australia. The course will introduce you to the advanced research and analysis skills that are highly sought in business.

Credit transfer information
If you have already completed study relevant to the course you have enrolled in, you may be eligible for credit transfer.
To successfully complete your studies, you may be required to demonstrate that you can meet course requirements associated with your course. For more information on these course requirements please view the ‘Course Requirements’ section found under the ‘What do I need to start?’ page under the ‘Getting Started’ tab of the Student Handbook . For entry into the Master of Professional Accounting, you are required to possess one of the following:
- an undergraduate degree in any discipline from an Australian university; or
- a graduate diploma in any discipline from an Australian university; or
- a qualification from an overseas institution or organisation assessed as being equivalent to the above by the professional bodies that accredit this program of study.
If you have successfully completed the CQUniversity Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting you will be eligible to apply for credit for courses already completed.
Advanced standing (credit for prior learning) Students may be eligible for exemptions of up to 48 credit points for previous graduate level studies in business or accounting. Exemptions up to 24 credit points may be granted for previous undergraduate studies in the same cognate area.
If you have English as your second language (international or domestic students born outside of Australia, Canada, NZ, UK, Ireland, South Africa or USA), you need to meet different English language proficiency requirements depending on the level of study and/or course you wish to undertake. Fees and scholarships
Degree-level students should check their Offer Letter to confirm the type of place they have been offered as this determines which fees apply to their enrolment. Students offered
- Commonwealth supported places are liable to pay Student Contributions;
- domestic full-fee places are liable to pay Tuition Fees;
- international full-fee places are liable to pay International Tuition Fees.
In addition to these fees, degree-level students pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee. NOTE: Some students who are exempt from paying Student Contributions and Tuition Fees, e.g. Research Higher Degree candidates, will be required to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee.
Fees are calculated upon enrolment, and recalculated after any enrolment change made prior to census date. Fees are also recalculated after administrative changes or updates are made to a student record, e.g. changes to citizenship status or Fee Liability Category.
Once calculated, fees can be viewed by logging into MyCentre, which also allows students to view and print Fee Notices on demand. The due date for payment is detailed on the Fee Notice.
PLEASE NOTE that paper Fee Notices are not issued by CQUniversity – students must access their Fee Notices in MyCentre.
