CQUniCares Appeal Scholarships

These Scholarships are made possible thanks to the generosity of CQUniversity alumni, friends and staff who donated through the CQUniCares 2017 Appeal. The scholarships will provide recognition and financial assistance to students who are under financial pressure.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to receive a CQUniCares Appeal Scholarship, an applicant must:

  • Be able to demonstrate low personal/family income or under financial pressure
  • Be enrolled at CQUniversity at the time of Census Date in Term 1, 2018
  • Not be receiving another Donor Funded* Scholarship or a CQUniCares Launch Scholarship

*Donor Funded: refers to a scholarship which is only available to CQUniversity students, funded by an individual or organisation external to the University (excluding Federal Government funded Commonwealth and Equity Scholarships)

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be assessed based on an application form, supporting documentation, and a personal statement (of no more than 500 words) demonstrating a genuine need for the funds, by addressing the following questions:

  • How much are you applying (max $2,000) and how would you spend the funds, if successful?
  • How this scholarship will help me to achieve my educational goals?

Additional Information

As a donor-funded scholarship recipient, you may be approached to assist with positively promoting the CQUniCares Scholarships program by sharing your experiences as a recipient through media and at events such as Open Day.

As there is a limited allocation of CQUniCares Appeal Scholarships available, the decision regarding all successful applications will be final.

Payment of Scholarship 

The successful applicants are required to enter their current financial institution details (banking details) into their MyCentre for payment to occur. This must be done prior to Census Date Term 1 2018 to avoid delays.

Payments will be made to the successful applicants in Week 6 after final post Census date eligibility checks at Term 1. Payments will be credited electronically to the students’ nominated bank accounts.

Supporting Documentation

Applications must include all necessary supporting documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:

  • Written personal statement
  • Evidence of income of applicant and
    • Income for their partners (if partnered)
    • Income for their parents (if under 22 and not deemed ‘independent’ by Centrelink)
  • Evidence to demonstrate financial need

Possible required documents for low income evidence:

  • Centrelink Income Statements (if applicable) –
    • for yourself
    • your partner if partnered or
    • parent/s if you are under 22 years of age

  • 3 x current consecutive payslips (if applicable) -
    • for yourself and/or
    • your partner if partnered or
    • parent/s if you are under 22 years of age
  • Latest Notice of Assessment or most recent Tax Return (If you or your partner are in receipt of business or investment income)
  • 3 months of all personal or business bank account statements

Please note: additional documents may be requested if low income is difficult to determine.

To apply for The CQUniCares Appeal Scholarship:
  1. Read the Scholarship Guidelines to check for eligibility and documentation required
  2. Complete a Scholarship Online Application Form, ensuring all supporting documentation is completed and attached as outlined in the Scholarship Guidelines

Complete Applications must be received at the Student Life and Wellbeing Centre, Scholarships Office by 5pm on the closing date.

Failure to supply requested documents will result in your application being incomplete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

How will I know the outcome of my application?

A selection panel, consisting of donors and representatives from CQUniversity will be formed to determine the successful applicants. A scholarship will only be offered where there is an applicant of sufficient merit. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications as soon as possible after the selection panel meets.
