PhD Scholarship as part of an International ARC-Discovery Research Project

A PhD scholarship is available as part of an international ARC-Discovery research project titled “Redesigning Landcare Policy to better coordinate land conservation across landholders” (summary below). The PhD topic will involve studying how agricultural producers in the grazing and sugarcane industries can be encouraged to adopt management practices that improve water quality in the Great Barrier Reef catchments. This is an important policy issue, with the Australian and Queensland governments establishing targets for major improvements in water quality by 2050. The PhD candidate is expected to be interested in the intersection between agricultural economics, behavioural economics and practice adoption. It is expected that the candidate will be involved in data collection from agricultural producers, and analysing secondary data from multiple sources. This work will be done in parallel to other project work carried out in the field in Australia and elsewhere, as part of an international team.
