HeART of the Basin Scholarship

2023 marks the seventh year for the HeART of the Basin Scholarship with a diverse range of research undertaken in waterway health since its inception in 2016. The Scholarship will be awarded to a Research student at CQUniversity studying Honours, Masters by Research or PhD to progress their learnings in a research topic relating to improving waterway health and/or understanding use of waterways in the Fitzroy Basin.

To be eligible to receive the HeART of the Basin Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in an Honours, Masters by Research or PhD in a relevant field of research at CQUniversity. Relevant Research fields include:
  • Agriculture
  • Built Environment
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Science
  • Economics
  • Be studying on campus in Rockhampton or through online study;
  • Devote time during the length of the scholarship (12 months) to an agreed research topic relating to advancing waterway health and/or understanding and use of waterways in the Fitzroy Basin;
  • Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident;

Not be receiving multiple CQUniversity Scholarships that exceed the annual value of $10,000.

Expectations of Recipients

You must devote time during the length of the scholarship to an agreed research topic relating to ‘improving waterway health and/or understanding use of waterways in the Fitzroy Basin.’

You must commit to the acknowledgment of Fitzroy Partnership for River Health in future papers/presentations referencing the water research and be available where possible to present at relevant water/research events acknowledging Fitzroy Partnership for River Health and agree to your photos/images being used on Fitzroy Partnership for River Health products

As a scholarship recipient, you will be asked to participate in a feedback survey. You may also be approached to assist with promoting CQUniversity’s Scholarship program by sharing your experiences as a recipient through testimonials, media or invitations to attend events such as Orientation or Open Days. If you do not wish to be publicly recognised or be involved in the above initiatives, please advise the Advancement and Alumni Relations Team via ourpartners@cqu.edu.au immediately following acceptance.

Payment of Scholarship

Payment will be credited to the relevant research project code provided by the School of Graduate Research in Week 6 of term, following final eligibility checks.

A section panel, consisting of representatives from the Fitzroy Partnership for River Health will be formed to determine the successful applicant.

Scholarships at CQUniversity are highly competitive. All applications are ranked based on how well applicants address the selection criteria, and in comparison, to other applicants.

Being eligible or being a recipient in the past is no guarantee of having a successful application.

A scholarship will only be offered where there is an applicant of sufficient merit.

All applicants are advised that any request for further information to support their application will be sent to their student email accounts or nominated email account for future students. Students will be required to re-submit any further information requested through their original application in MyCQU. Failure to resubmit further information will deem the application incomplete and will not be considered.

As applications are received by the Fitzroy Partnership for River Health directly, the Scholarships and Financial Assistance Team are unable to provide updates to students on the progress of their individual application until all assessments are completed.

Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via their student email accounts only. Decisions are final.

The Fitzroy Partnership for River Health is a collective of government, agriculture, resources, industry, research, and community interests across the Fitzroy Basin in central Queensland.
