Destination Australia Scholarship (Doctor of Philosophy)

Destination Australia is an Australian Government funded scholarship program designed to support a domestic or international student to study in regional Australia. The Destination Australia Scholarship (Doctor of Philosophy) is open to new full-time students commencing in a Doctor of Philosophy degree at CQUniversity Cairns campus. Our regional campuses like Cairns, don’t only offer a great quality education, they also offer the companionship of a close-knit community and opportunities to explore iconic natural wonders coupled with a lower cost of living.

To be eligible for a Destination Australia Scholarship (Doctor of Philosophy) an applicant must:

  • be a new full-time internal domestic or international Doctor of Philosophy applicant
  • be commencing in a Doctor of Philosophy degree at CQUniversity Cairns campus.

To be considered for the Destination Australia Scholarship (Doctor of Philosophy), please provide a written submission (in 500 words or less) with your online application for admission addressing the following:
  • Career goals and how the scholarship will assist you in achieving your educational objectives
  • Extracurricular activities - especially community and volunteering activities and demonstration of leadership
  • Life experiences
In addition to the eligibility criteria, successful applicants must maintain residence and internal enrolment at the Cairns campus for the duration of their degree.
The Destination Australia (Doctor of Philosophy) Scholarship provides a living allowance stipend which is paid fortnightly to the recipient through the University's payroll system.

Domestic students who are awarded a Destination Australia Scholarship (Doctor of Philosophy) will also be offered an RTP Fees Offset Scholarship, which fully extinguishes the candidate's tuition liability for the period of the Offset Scholarship. A separate application for an RTP Fees Offset Scholarship is not required.

International students who are awarded a Destination Australia Scholarship (Doctor of Philosophy) will also be offered an International Excellence Award, which fully extinguishes the candidate's tuition liability for the period of the Offset Scholarship. A separate application for an International Excellence Award is not required.
Applications must include all necessary supporting documents with their online Application for Admission. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:
  • Completed online Application for Admission (Doctor of Philosophy) submission
  • Evidence of academic achievements or unofficial transcript
  • Study Statement (in 500 words or less)
  • Resume

A selection panel, consisting of representatives from CQUniversity will determine the successful applicant. A scholarship will only be offered where there is an applicant/s of sufficient merit. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications as soon as possible after the selection panel meets.
