CQUniCares Launch Scholarship

The CQUniCares Launch Scholarship assists students from low SES backgrounds with expenses associated with undergraduate study. Those expenses can include non-deferrable costs such as textbooks, uniforms, computer equipment, internet, equipment or travel costs associated with compulsory residential schools and unpaid work placements.

To be eligible to receive the CQUniCares Launch Scholarship successful applicants must:

  • be identified as low SES in the current term of study with CQUniversity
  • be enrolled or intending to enrol in an undergraduate course as the primary course of study in Term 1, 2021:
    • Bachelor;
    • Associate Degree;
    • Advanced Diploma
    • Diploma (higher education)
  • be studying with a minimum term study load of 12 credit points or more
  • be enrolled at Census date in Term 1, 2021
  • be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or holder of an Australian Permanent Visa*
  • not be receiving any other CQUniversity scholarship of similar or higher value

*Must have a permanent home address in Australia

Ongoing Eligibility

In addition to the eligibility requirements, the successful applicant must:

  • Maintain a term GPA of at least 4.0
  • Complete 2 x pathway modules of Blackbullion financial literacy platform prior to Census date Term 1 and Term 2 (4 pathways total)

As a scholarship recipient, you will be asked to participate in a feedback survey. You may also be approached to assist with positively promoting the CQUniversity Scholarships program by sharing your experiences as a recipient through media or invited to attend events such as Orientation or Open Day.

Applicants will be assessed based on an application form and a written submission of no more than 500 words addressing the following:

  • Career goals and how the scholarship will assist you in achieving your educational objectives;
  • Extracurricular activities – especially community and volunteering activities and demonstration of leadership.
  • Life experiences

Applicants will be preferenced based on their low SES classification and degree of disadvantage as follows:

  • students identified as living in LSES areas (LSES criteria specific to level of education, job skill and employment)
  • students who have demonstrated low personal or family income
  • students with a medical condition/disability
  • students with significant carer responsibilities
  • students not living in close proximity to a CQUniversity campus
  • students enrolled in courses with high educational expenses
  • Academic progress will be taken into consideration for those applicants who are continuing CQUniversity students.

  • Maintain a minimum term GPA of 4.0
  • Remain enrolled in the course with a minimum term study load of 12 credit points as at Census date in Term 2

Payment of Scholarship

The successful applicants are required to enter their current financial institution details (banking details) into their MyCentre for the cash portion of the scholarship payment to be processed. Students will also need to confirm their postal address is current for non-cash portions of the scholarship to be sent by post.

Cash payment portions will be made to the successful applicants in Week 6 of Term 1 and 2, following final post Census date eligibility and Blackbullion engagement checks.

Applications must include all necessary supporting documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:
  • Written submission
  • Evidence of academic achievements or unofficial transcript
  • Evidence of community involvement, exemplary work or demonstration of leadership
  • Resume
  • Evidence of financial need (please see below)

Possible required documents for low-income evidence:

  • Centrelink Income Statements (if applicable) –
  • for yourself
  • your partner if partnered or
  • parent/s if you are under 22 years of age

  • 3 x current consecutive payslips (if applicable) –
  • for yourself and/or
  • your partner if partnered or
  • parent/s if you are under 22 years of age
  • Latest Notice of Assessment or most recent Tax Return (if you or your partner are in receipt of business or investment income)

To apply for a CQUniCares Launch Scholarship, complete an online Scholarship Application Form, ensuring all supporting documentation is attached:

    • For Current students (applicants who have already have a Student ID number) apply through MyCQU. You will need to log in with your student details.
    • For Future students (applicants who have applied or are intending to apply to study at CQUniversity but not yet received or accepted an offer) apply now.

Complete Applications must be received at the Student Scholarships Office by 5pm AEST on the closing date.

Failure to supply requested documents will result in your application being incomplete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Scholarships at CQUniversity are highly competitive. All applications are ranked based on the selection criteria. Being eligible or being a recipient in the past is no guarantee of having a successful application. All applicants are advised that any request for further information to support their application will be sent to their student email accounts or nominated email account for future students. Students will be required to attach and re-submit any further information requested through their original application in MyCentre. Failure to resubmit further information will deem the application incomplete and will not be considered. The Scholarships and Financial Assistance Team are unable to provide updates to students on the progress of their individual application until all assessments are completed. Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via their student email accounts only. Decisions are final.
