The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Aircraft Maintenance – Avionics) combines vocational curriculum at Aviation Australia and degree curriculum at CQUniversity. This is Australia’s first of its kind dual award – and one of only three in the world – in the field of avionics.

The course aims to provide an opportunity for graduates of the Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering – Avionics who have at least two years industry experience, to achieve the Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME) outcome.

If you’re looking to fast-track and launch your aviation engineering career sooner through a blended learning journey, this course is perfect for you.

But that’s not all. Stand out from the crowd and maximise your employment prospects by graduating with two qualifications from two reputable training and education providers.

What you will Learn at Aviation Australia

You will spend your first 1.5 years studying full-time with Aviation Australia, undertaking the Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering – Avionics. This is the only approved European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) outcome available in Australia, delivering to international students.

Aviation Australia is a world class aviation and aerospace registered training organisation. You will learn and practise hands-on skills in their world-class hangars, which features a range of aircraft and professional training facilities, and conveniently located near the Brisbane International Airport.

You will learn avionics and electrical control systems within an aircraft as well as the repair and maintenance processes that apply to these systems.

What you will Learn at CQUniversity

You will spend your final 1.5 years at CQUniversity acquiring more practical skills such as analysing the operations of various aircraft systems and subsystems, and competently and safely complete maintenance of various aircraft systems including flight control, navigation, autoflight, communication and avionic systems.

You have the flexibility to do this full-time on campus at CQUniversity Rockhampton, or study online in your home country while working in the industry and gaining experience.

Additionally, you will learn control systems, advanced maintenance materials, maintenance and asset management and have the opportunity to participate in an aviation project. You will also gain a deeper understanding of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), which meets the requirements of gaining an Australian Remote Pilot Licence.

When you study with us, you can rest assured you will follow and learn from the success of our undergraduate engineering students who enjoy some of the nation’s leading graduate outcomes in full-time employment and starting salary.

Course outcomes and career prospects

Global demand analysis by industry players and future employers (Boeing Pilot and Technician Outlook 2020-2039) indicates high levels of demand for skilled labour in avionic technology in the Asia Pacific region, which suggests positive employment prospects.

On successful completion, you will graduate with two qualifications: the Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering – Avionics, approved by EASA and a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Aircraft Maintenance – Avionics).

Bachelor qualified students will have met the requirements to obtain an Australian Remote Pilot Licence (RePL). With a further two years’ experience minimum, you can apply for the category licence and be eligible for roles such as a Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer or an avionic technician as well as excel in management roles within aircraft facilities.

The added value of CQUni’s degree

As a diploma graduate, you will be qualified to be an avionics engineer working with complex computer technology which involves high-tech equipment. However, as a bachelor graduate, you will have more opportunities to get involved in management or leadership roles, as well as be part of the first cohort of international students to gain a dual award qualification in avionics, a dynamic and evolving field of expertise.

CQUniversity is proud to be ranked #1 in Australia for full-time employment, as well as achieving five-star ratings for starting salary and learning resources. Our undergraduate engineering students also rate our state-of-the-art engineering laboratories and practical learning resources positively, with ComparED reporting 83.5 per cent of students were happy with our facilities, compared to the national average of 77.6 per cent.
