The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a course of supervised research and study leading to the submission of a thesis which makes a significant original contribution to knowledge. 

The course is governed by the Research Higher Degree Course Rules which provide details regarding all aspects of admission, progression, submission and examination of your thesis.

This is a research-based course and progress is monitored on a time and progress basis, rather than credit point accrual (0 credits):

    You'll complete a unit of study specific to your discipline for the duration of your candidature, no credit points apply.

What You'll Study

As per enrolment advice and Course Rules, as a research candidate, you will be enrolled in a unit of study specific to your discipline for the duration of your candidature, but no credit points apply to this unit.  The course comprises research and thesis development activities as outlined in the course rules.

You may have opportunities to undertake optional work-integrated learning activities appropriate to your discipline area.

What happens after you submit your preliminary proposal?

Your preliminary proposal will be received by the School of Graduate Research team and directed on to the relevant academic School for review and identification of available supervisors. You may be contacted directly by a potential supervisor to discuss your proposed topic. 

If your preliminary proposal is accepted, you will be invited to prepare a full research proposal in collaboration with your nominated supervisory team.
