The Doctor of Philosophy (Offshore) provides you with the opportunity to study for a PhD, recognised within the Australian Qualification Framework, whilst remaining in your home country for a substantive part of the degree.
This course is comprised of an independent research study and thesis, overseen by academic supervisors. This degree is limited to high-quality applicants wishing to pursue research in particular discipline areas. For fully offshore candidates, periods of short-term visitation in Australia will be required during this degree, and travel support is available to facilitate such visits. For candidates undertaking this course under a co-tutelle model, an extended period of study within Australia will be required, typically lasting at least six months or more.
The course is governed by the Research Higher Degree (Offshore) Course Rules which provide details regarding all aspects of admission, progression, submission and examination of your thesis.

As per enrolment advice and Course Rules, as a research candidate, you will be enrolled in a unit of study specific to your discipline for the duration of your candidature, but no credit points apply to this unit. The course comprises research and thesis development activities as outlined in the course rules.
You may have opportunities to undertake optional work-integrated learning activities appropriate to your discipline area.

Your preliminary proposal will be received by the School of Graduate Research team and directed on to the relevant academic School for review and identification of available supervisors. You may be contacted directly by a potential supervisor to discuss your proposed topic.
If your preliminary proposal is accepted, you will be invited to prepare a full research proposal in collaboration with your nominated supervisory team.
