CQUniversity and North Rockhampton State High School (NRSHS) have enjoyed a long and successful collaboration, providing skills and knowledge to generations of Rockhampton region students for over 50 years. Now we have joined forces to enable NRSHS graduates to pursue further education at CQUniversity by establishing the CQUniCares North Rockhampton State High School Graduate Scholarship Fund. Together, we can support Rockhampton’s next generation to follow their dreams.

In 2024, we were successful in raising funds to award the inaugural CQUniCares North Rockhampton State High School Graduate Higher Education Scholarship, which enabled a NRSHS graduate to start a CQUniversity degree in 2025.

We were also able to award three CQUniCares Macoun Family Scholarships for North Rockhampton State High School Graduates in 2025 due to the generosity of former NRSHS student Ian Macoun and his family.

Now our objective is to raise another $5,000 before the end of 2025 to fund a scholarship for a NRSHS graduate to start at CQU in 2026.

The scholarship not only provides much-needed financial assistance, but also mentoring, networking opportunities and encouragement to the deserving recipient and their family.

Ellie's Story

My name is Ellie Watson, and I am a recipient of a CQUniCares Macoun Family Scholarship for North Rockhampton State High School Graduates.

I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Nursing at CQUniversity, and this scholarship has significantly contributed to my ability to advance toward my academic and professional aspirations. Thanks to the scholarship, I can dedicate myself more fully to my studies, alleviating the additional pressures associated with financial obligations.

I aspire to specialise in cardiac nursing eventually, and I am passionate about making a positive impact on people’s lives through compassionate, high-quality care. Receiving this scholarship has not only eased my financial burden but has also strengthened my motivation to succeed and contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of our community.
