A PhD scholarship is available as part of an international ARC discovery project grant commencing in 2023. The candidate is based at CQUniversity with travel opportunities to share knowledge between partner Universities, University of Western Australia, and the National University of Singapore. The scholarship is for both domestic and international candidates and provides living costs as well as a tuition fee waiver. The PhD student will work with other PhD students and with the Research Associate under guidance from the supervisors. The research project aims to develop a new constitutive model within the framework of bounding surface plasticity and critical state soil mechanics. Cutting edge large deformation numerical modelling development is planned using mesh-less methods.

The candidate is expected to have a Master by Research degree in Geotechnical Engineering from a reputed University. A good command over the English language is essential demonstrated through an eligible English language test report, such as IELTS, TOEFL and PTE. Some experience in computer programming using Fortran or Python will be beneficial. Some experience with numerical methods such as the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Discrete Element Method (DEM) is desirable.
