PhD Scholarship - Energy Management Systems in Advanced Microgrids for Residential, Commercial and Industrial Buildings

This full time PhD research scholarship is offered through a linkage project grant from Australian Research Council (ARC) linking CQUniversity, Griffith University and University Technology Sydney together with the company Planet Ark who is an expert industry in Micro Grid Solutions. The purpose of the scholarship is to carry out research and propose an optimized operation strategy for solar powered water and sewage treatment plants for Whitsunday Regional Council. The candidate will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with research leaders in all the linking organizations. He/she will be developing energy management solutions for advanced micro grids which will be field tested through the micro grids operated by Planet Ark. The scholarship is open for any applicants (domestic or international) living in Australia currently.

In addition to meeting the enrolment criteria for PhD by Research of CQUniversity, the candidate must be available to undertake the research full time on campus while being stationed in CQUniversity Gladstone campus. The candidate should also be prepared to visit Planet Ark in Brisbane and other selected Micro Grid sites as and when required to study the implementation aspects of Micro Grid Management algorithms developed and collect data. The candidate must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia, or an international applicant eligible for a student visa for temporary residence and already be living in Australia at time of application due to travel restrictions that are currently in place in Australia due to COVID-19.

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant meeting eligibility criteria for the enrolment as a PhD by Research candidate at CQUniversity. He/She must have a proven track record of being engaged in research/industry projects in undergraduate (and postgraduate if any) specialization. Prior experience of being involved in power systems, power electronics or renewable energies related projects as well as optimization techniques will be an advantage. The candidate must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and should be capable of working in teams in academic as well as industry environments. Any research publications and project reports proving good communication skills will be given additional merit.
