The Teachers of STEM Initiative™ is an innovative response to support Indigenous women to succeed in STEM. Developed by The Stronger Smarter Institute, through funding provided by the National Indigenous Australians Agency the Teachers of STEM Initiative provides support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women to complete STEM teaching qualifications and professional development for educators seeking to improve the STEM educational experience of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.

To be eligible for this Initiative you must:

  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman.
  • Studying an undergraduate STEM teaching qualification, or
  • Upgrading your existing teaching qualification with an approved STEM course, or
  • Studying a Master of Teaching to support your existing STEM qualification.
  • Be committed to transforming Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student educational outcomes.

The support you will receive:

  • Financial scholarship support for First Nations women pursuing a STEM Bachelor's Teaching Degree. Additionally, there are options for financial assistance for those pursuing a Master of STEM Teaching or Graduate STEM Certificates.
  • Empowerment through the guidance of First Nations women mentors.
  • Incorporating Indigenous Knowledge into the STEM Curriculum.
  • Academic and Peer Support Services.
  • Individualised Case Management Support.
