CQU graduate transitions career from military to mind and muscle
Driven by an inherent curiosity about human behaviour and a desire to make a positive impact in people’s lives, CQUniversity graduate Chris Aulbury is combining his passions for physical and psychological wellbeing to embark on a new career path.
After a nine-year Defence Force (ADF) career, Mr Aulbury decided to transition into civilian life and upskill with tertiary education. He recently completed his Bachelor of Psychological Science, receiving his testamur at CQU’s 2023 Townsville graduation ceremony where he also delivered the graduates' representative response.
The veteran credited the combination of CQU’s academic education, military training and passion for fitness with uniquely preparing him for the next step in his career.
“I am the owner of my own personal training business and a CrossFit coach. My psychology studies have granted a valuable insight into understanding how people think,” he said.
“This newfound understanding empowers me to better motivate and guide my clients in their training and overall holistic development.
“I am currently studying my Masters in Strength and Conditioning at another university.
“Once I complete that I would like to come back and undertake my honours and Master in Psychological Science to combine the skillsets and be able to work in Sports Psychology.”
The Townsville resident said his positive experience at CQUniversity helped him succeed in his studies, acknowledging the University’s student advisors, teachers and lecturers, and local staff for their support.
“I originally wanted a university that was flexible and engaging. I felt that CQU was the best fit with a combination of face-to-face and online learning.
“I was blessed with passionate and committed teachers who always believed in my ability and went out of their way to give the guidance I required,” Mr Aulbury said.
“Without their work and commitment, none of this would be possible. I am very grateful for all the guidance and support I received.”
