Rockhampton's Relay For Life is back in 2021

Relay For Life is back with a fresh new structure after being on hiatus due to the pandemic.

The fun and inspiring event raises vital funds for the Cancer Council's research' prevention' information and support services.

CQUniversity is proud to be a major sponsor and has been working closely with the Queensland Cancer Council in Rockhampton and the Rocky Relay team to plan an enjoyable and COVID-safe event.

The 12-hour event will be hosted at CQUniversity's Rockhampton North campus from 10am on Saturday' 7 August' 2021.

CQUniversity Associate Vice-President Kim Harrington said the University had long been a major sponsor of Relay' providing the Rockhampton campus as an ideal venue and encouraging both staff and students to nominate teams for the event.

"CQUni has always been proud to support Relay over the years and we are so thankful the event can proceed in 2021 in this new COVID safe format."

Relay Chair' Talitha Dodson' said they normally start planning the event 12 months in advance; however' with the uncertainty surrounding events due to COVID' they have only just received the green light for 2021.

"We have less than three months to find our teams' inspire them to get out there and fundraise' and prepare the level of entertainment and activities everyone expects'"

she said.

"Never before have we needed teams to get behind Relay as much as we need them this year."

With the changes in place for this years' event' there will be no big tents or all the trappings that accompany an overnight stay.

"This is the perfect year for anyone who has always been curious about Relay but has held back to experience all the fun without needing to find takers for the overnight shift'"

Ms Dodson said.

"Grab your friends' family' workmates or classmates and get registered to raise some funds.

"We can't wait to see you there because we're excited to see what will eventuate with this new format."

One in every two Queensland men and women will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85' along with around 1000 children Australia wide.

Funded in part by events such as Relay For Life' ground-breaking research' constantly evolving treatment options' and new support systems are making tangible inroads to extending survival rates.
