Mackay Theatre students prepare for live stage production
From 18-20 June' the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music's (CQCM) Bachelor of Theatre students will step back in time to present five performances of the musical Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown.
Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown' by David Yazbek' is the musical retelling of Pedro Almodóvar's famous film. This frantic heart-warming comedy is packed with quirky but relatable individuals that will leave you 'totally tangled up!'
Guest director' James Lee' who has performed in the first Australian productions of Les Miserables' Phantom Of The Opera and Miss Saigon and in the special Opera Australia production of My Fair Lady directed by Dame Julie Andrews' says working with CQUniversity students has been a delight.
"This crazy stage production is very filmic. It is a challenge for the students in the sense that it's not a standard musical. It is film and music and drama!"
The performances will take place in the CQCM Ooralea Theatre (Building 21)' 150 Boundary Road' Ooralea.
CQUniversity Head of Course in Theatre Dr Linda Lorenza said that as the Australian arts industry struggles in the wake of COVID-19' the opportunity for students to perform live on stage is a privilege for which they are extremely grateful.
In conjunction with regional students returning to on-campus life' CQUniversity has offered an online Undergraduate Certificate in Music Theatre for one term in response to last year's COVID-19 lock downs. This boosted interest in CQUniversity's unique Bachelor of Theatre program.
The production unit in the Undergraduate Certificate aligns with the on-campus production unit enabling two online students to travel to Mackay and participate in this term's live production.
Tickets can be purchased from the CQCM website. Get in quick because they are selling fast.
