Rebecca Sologinkin has juggled motherhood alongside CQUniversity study to complete a Certificate III in Information Technology and "future-proof" her plans to start a career in the ever-changing IT industry.

Rebecca is one of the first to complete the new Certificate III qualification' which started in 2021 with six new core units.

"I studied the course at the Mackay city campus and online when Covid changed the way we study and work' amongst other things'" she said.

"I wanted to study IT because it is such a major part of the modern world. We rely heavily on computers for many tasks' and I wanted to be able to understand how that technology works to be able to function when something goes down.

"I also wanted to be able to get involved in a career that will be future proof and which is continuing to grow.

"It is that which made me interested in IT in the first place' how it is changing and improving. I have a natural curiosity to understand how things work.

"I initially undertook this course while I was pregnant with my second child so that I would have a career to turn to when I was ready to go back to work. It took me a little while to finish and' in that time' I became pregnant with my third child' So while I would love to be working' I currently am not employed."

Rebecca said she enjoyed the balance of theory and practice that made up the course.

"I loved that we were able to get hands-on experience in the classroom - that's always an invaluable experience'" she said.

"I also liked that the course work gives you the knowledge to understand why certain processes are followed or how it is that things work together.

"The course effectively prepares you for what it is like to work in the IT industry with a good mixture of hands on and theoretical learning. The lecturers are also full of knowledge and happy to support your learning."
