20 January 2023

Central Queensland school leavers and those looking to upskill or change careers have been encouraged to enrol in 37'000 Fee-Free TAFE places available in 2023.

Fee-Free TAFE in Central Queensland in 2023 is being delivered by CQUniversity and Deputy Vice-President for VET Peter Heilbuth said CQU TAFE was ready to meet the region's training needs.

"Fee-Free TAFE has the potential to change lives here in Central Queensland'" Mr Heilbuth said.

"In this new year' many people may be looking to upskill or follow a different career path and CQUniversity's TAFE training is the best place for them to take that next step.

"With Fee-Free TAFE' the pressure that can come with deciding to study a qualification is no longer an obstacle – allowing people to truly follow their dreams."

A recent survey of CQUniversity TAFE student outcomes' conducted by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER)' found that 85.3 per cent of CQuniversity TAFE students were employed after they completed their training. Furthermore 90 per cent of these completors were satisfied with the training they received at CQUniversity.

The most popular Fee Free courses being studied include:

* Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
* Diploma of Community Services
* Diploma of Business
* Diploma of Nursing (*eligible to First Nations Australian' people with disability or people from cultural and linguistically diverse background)

Mr Heilbuth urged anyone considering vocational education to access Fee-Free TAFE.

"Hundreds of CQ residents recently attended our CQU TAFE Careers Expos in Rockhampton' Mackay and Gladstone and one of the things that stood out at these events was that many people with existing qualifications already may be eligible for Fee-Free TAFE'" he said.

"Eligibility for this funding is not restricted due to qualifications already held. This is a big opportunity' in 2023 only' for people' particularly those in leadership and management or project management' not to mention people looking to change careers."

Fee-Free TAFE is funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
