CQU students and teacher gear up for CQ Regional Queensland Training Awards

CQUniversity will be cheering on its nine finalists in the 2025 Central Queensland Regional Queensland Training Awards on Saturday 26 July.

The University’s vocational education and training will take centre stage at the event in Rockhampton with eight students and teacher Andrew Abbas, up for awards.

CQU TAFE-trained students Shane Anderson (Conservation and Ecosystem Management) and Kylie Johnston (Horticulture) are finalists in the Vocational Student of the Year category.

Apprentices Georgia Beveridge (Electrotechnology) and Aloisa Pacher (Engineering – Mechanical) are finalists in the Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year category.

In the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year category, CQU TAFE has two finalists: Shaeli Carty (Engineering – Mechanical) and Maddison Petrie (Electrotechnology Electrician/Instrumentation and Control).

Other CQU TAFE finalists include Amber Stead (Laboratory Skills) in the Equity Student of the Year category and Chloe Hutchinson (Business) in the Bob Marshman of the Year category.

CQU Emerald Metal Fabrication Teacher Andrew Abbas has also been named a finalist in the VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year category.

The winners will be announced at the final to be held at the Rockhampton Leagues Club

Any winners will then go on to compete in the Queensland Training Awards State Final in Brisbane on 13 September.
