The travel industry basically dropped out of the sky during the COVID pandemic, but 2024 has seen travellers back in the air in flocks, with near to pre-pandemic numbers booking travel.

CQUniversity-owned travel agency Travel Crew last week celebrated 30 years of providing travel services to corporate and leisure clients and was spruiking a hugely successful year of business.

General Manager Serah-Jane Morgan said despite the huge hit that the industry took during COVID, Travel Crew had bounced back stronger than ever.

“In 2024 we’ve booked over 5000 trips, including over 10,000 nights at hotels for our corporate and leisure clients,” Ms Morgan explained.

“Over the 30 years we have been operating, Travel Crew has weathered the collapse of Ansett, the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Global Financial Crisis and recently the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the surge of the internet.”

Ms Morgan said she believed their resilience in the industry was due to the repeat clientele who valued Travel Crew's service and expertise.

“We have over 130 years of combined travel industry experience at Travel Crew and that’s something we’re proud of.”

Travel Crew opened in 1994 - the same year the University rebranded as Central Queensland University - and have operated from the Rockhampton North campus since that time.

“We may have been the first travel agency owned by a university in Australia.”
