CQUniversity supports reconciliation 'Now More Than Ever'
CQUniversity is proud to reaffirm its unwavering commitment to reconciliation, embracing this year's National Reconciliation Week (NRW) theme, 'Now More Than Ever',
Throughout NRW, CQUniversity hosted a variety of events across its national campus footprint to encourage participation and reflection among students, staff and the broader community.
Cultural activities took centre stage in Rockhampton with a choir comprising staff, students and the community performing in the Amphitheatre.
Guest speakers gave informative talks with Councillor (Waskam) Emelda Davis presenting an Indigenous history speech at the Sydney campus.
In Adelaide, social psychologists delivered a presentation on Five evidence-based ways to be an ally.
Morning tea and lunch events were held in Townsville, Emerald, Brisbane and Melbourne for attendees to network and discuss the unfinished business of reconciliation.
Art enthusiasts attended a NRW art exhibition hosted at the Mackay City campus throughout the week, while Cairns locals joined an art activity.
CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Nick Klomp said these events were held to acknowledge the weight of our collective past, share the rich tapestry of our histories and cultures, and celebrate our triumphs and challenges.
"Now, more than ever, it is essential that we not only reaffirm our wholehearted commitment to the journey of achieving reconciliation in our country but also that, as a university community, we take genuine action to fulfil this crucial mission," Professor Klomp said.
"We must confront our collective past and come together to openly share the depths of our history, cultures, triumphs and challenges. By harnessing the lessons of our past, we can create progress in our shared future."
During his annual NRW address, Professor Klomp announced CQUniversity had committed to developing a new Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), to build on achievements of its existing Innovate RAP.
"While we have come together to celebrate National Reconciliation Week, it is an opportunity to be reminded that reconciliation remains at the core of our hearts, minds, actions and university operations every week of the year."
CQUniversity's ongoing commitment to reconciliation and social justice is reflected in the University’s programs, research and community initiatives.

Group choir singing:
Blackfella, whitefella
It doesn't matter what your colour
As long as you a real fella
As long as you a true fella
All the people of different races
With different lives in different places
It doesn't matter what your name is
We got to have lots of changes
We need more brothers if we're to make it
We need more sisters if we're to save it
Are you the one who's gonna stand up and be counted?
Are you the one who's gonna be there when we shout it?
Are you the one who's always ready with a helping hand?
Are you the one who understands this family plan?
