English Requirements

To study at CQUniversity, you need to have a level of proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English. This ensures you can succeed in your studies and fully participate in university life.

We accept several English tests and qualifications to demonstrate your English proficiency. The following information will help you understand the English requirements for all courses.

If you find that you do not meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements, you can study an English language course offered by our CQUEnglish Language Centres located on the Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney campuses.

English Tests

We accept several English tests. Please refer to our English language proficiency requirements table for the minimum scores required. Some courses require higher scores. Please refer to the CQUniversity handbook or the Variations Listing at the bottom of this page for a list of courses with variations to the standard English language requirements.

Your English test results are valid if no more than two years have lapsed between the final examination result date and the date of commencement of study. Every student will be assessed individually, and other equivalent English preparation or combinations of English preparation will be considered.

Previous Study and Other Qualifications

If you have successfully completed previous study where the language of instruction was English at a university or post-secondary school, or have an academic qualification that meets the English language proficiency requirements within the last five years, you may be deemed to have met the minimum English language proficiency requirements.

You will be required to provide certified documentation to verify any of the above circumstances, including the entry testing for English language studies.

Prior English Language Studies

If you have completed an English language course with one of CQUniversity's approved Recognised English Entry Providers (REEP), you may not need to sit for an English test. Visit our external providers page for a list of our approved partners.
